ATHENS, Ga. — National champion UGA quarterback Stetson Bennett is defending himself against fans who were critical of his behavior during the university’s celebration parade over the weekend.
Channel 2 Action News, the official station of the Georgia Bulldogs, brought you live coverage of the parade and exclusive live coverage of the trophy ceremony inside Sanford Stadium on Saturday.

Bennett appeared to spend much of the parade looking down at his cell phone instead of interacting with the fans who cheered him and the rest of the Dawgs to back-to-back championship titles.
Fans flocked to social media to express their displeasure with Bennett, many of whom felt his behavior was disappointing.

The quarterback took to his Twitter account on Tuesday night to explain, saying he was handling a music playlist for himself and the teammates in his car. He responded directly to one tweet from 92.9 the Game host Steak Shapiro.
The 25-year-old Bennett said he wanted to spend his final ride into Sanford Stadium enjoying his time with fellow team captains Sedrick Van Pran and Chris Smith.
He also apologized to fans who felt like he wasn’t appreciating them and that “couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Shapiro responded on Tuesday night after Bennett sent his tweet.
“To be clear #13 could not be bigger fan of you and what you’ve accomplished. I called you the greatest Dawg in history and one of the greatest sports stories of all time. Just thought Saturday could’ve been better, regardless wishing u nothing but the best moving forward.”
