Clark Atlanta quarterback arrested after chase with troopers in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A quarterback for Clark Atlanta University is accused of leading troopers on a chase and a hit-and-run in DeKalb County.

Elijah Odom, 23, faces multiple charges for the chase that happened Sunday in the area of Candler Road.

Georgia State Patrol said DeKalb police requested its help to clear out a large group of cars gathering outside a convenience store. Troopers found a car leaving the parking lot with illegally tinted windows and tried to stop it.

GSP said the car sped off and started a chase with troopers. Two people jumped out of the car in an alley way behind the store.

Troopers said they continued to follow Odom through several streets. Odom is accused of hitting another car at East Lake Terrace and Oakview Road and leaving the scene.

A PIT maneuver brought the chase to an end. Odom’s passenger was not charged and released from the scene. Troopers said they found a pistol, rifle and marijuana when they searched the car.

Troopers said they also found videos on Odom’s Instagram profile of him performing burnouts and doughnuts in front of the convenience store.

Odom faces the following charges: felony fleeing, reckless driving, speeding, hit and run, failure to maintain lanes, passing the shoulder of the road, stop sign, red lights, possession of marijuana, and window tint.

The 2021 Clark Atlanta football roster lists Odom as a junior quarterback for the team. He played in eight games last season.

Channel 2 Action News has reached out to the athletic department for a statement.
