People who came out after hearing sirens say it was heartbreaking.

“The pain just went out immediately. When I walked outside, I just grabbed my heart like, what if this was my child,?” said Phyllis Scott, director of the Kids Haven Learning Center daycare near the scene.

Neighbor Adam Toomer, who was walking by the scene, gave Jones pictures from the incident. There are markings in the road that indicate where she was hit.

“She didn’t move at all. She was turned on her side,” said Toomer.

Toomer was working near the scene along Bells Ferry near Highway 92 Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. when he walked out and saw the victim.

“You hate to see somebody like that, and she had a white shirt on too,” said Toomer.

Deputies say the teenager remains in the hospital and that her condition is serious.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who was in the area who has a dash camera to heck it to see if it captured the truck. Or anything else connected to this incident.
