CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A Cherokee County jury convicted a 57-year-old man of 16 felony sex crimes involving multiple children, according to the Office of the District Attorney for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit.

Charles Lowry Douglas, of Ball Ground, was found guilty Monday of nine counts of child molestation and seven counts of sexual battery.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in September 2021 after a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office detective received allegations of child sexual abuse involving multiple children.
During the investigation, five children who were related to Douglas or otherwise knew him reported that he sexually abused them, prosecutors said.
The abuse occurred inside homes in Holly Springs and Ball Ground and took place over multiple years. Some of the children were as young as 6 and 7 when the abuse began, according to the DA’s office.
The charges involved allegations that Douglas touched the children’s breasts, buttocks and inner thighs.

Douglas was acquitted of one count of aggravated child molestation and two counts of child molestation.
The six-day trial included testimony from 11 witnesses, including the victims, their mothers, law enforcement officers, a DFCS caseworker and an expert in child sexual abuse.
Prosecutors also introduced more than 28 exhibits, including photographs, recorded interviews and text messages. Douglas testified in his own defense.
Jurors deliberated for about seven hours before reaching their verdict.
Douglas is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 9.
