Jordan Shine Joines died Oct. 12, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
Officers responded to a home on A Sanders St. in Jacksonville, NC, for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found Joines in the front yard with a gunshot wound to his head.
He was taken to Naval Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to JPD, the gunshot was accidental, self-inflicted, and happened while Joines was demonstrating the mechanics of a gun to several people.

Joines was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, a devoted husband and a beloved son, brother and uncle, according to a GoFundMe organized in his memory.
He graduated from Creekview High School with the class of 2024. It was there that he met his wife, Aaliyah. After graduating, Joines enlisted in the Marine Corps.
His family says he could brighten a room with his humor and make others smile, even on difficult days.
“He loved deeply, gave his whole heart to the people around him, and brought a special kind of joy into the lives of those who knew him,” the fundraiser states.
His sudden death has left his wife and family grieving while facing unexpected expenses, including funeral and memorial costs and travel for relatives spread throughout the south.
The fundraiser seeks donations to help support Aaliyah and the Joines family as they navigate the loss.
Funeral and memorial service details will be announced at a later date, according to the fundraiser.
