Madison Police were called to the truck stop on Monticello Highway on Feb. 17 around 5:30 p.m. When officers arrived, there was a foul stench and the truck’s key was turned to the “on” position, though the truck had run out of fuel.

Police found the body of 32-year old Adam Walker of Columbus inside in the sleeper portion of the truck. He had been driving the truck to deliver lawn equipment parts from Chicago to Jacksonville, according to the Lake Oconee News.

Detective Andre Johnson told the Morgan County Citizen that it was unclear if Walker had suffered any injuries and the blood oozing from the truck was likely due to decomposition. Police estimated that Walker had been dead inside the cab for several days.

Madison Police Department Chief Bill Ashburn said there was a gun in the cab, but it didn’t appear to have been fired.

An autopsy will be necessary to determine cause of death.

“There is an ongoing investigation to determine events leading up to the discovery of the body. At this time, no foul play is suspected; however, we will await the completion of the autopsy before making any final determinations,” Ashburn said.

Madison is about 60 miles east of Atlanta.
