The GBI says police responded to the gas station around 6:20 a.m. about a man pointing a gun at customers in the parking lot. Witnesses said the man also fired his gun into the front glass window of Circle K.

Investigators said officers found 45-year-old Jose Luis Rivera with his hands behind his back. An officer asked Rivera to show his hands. GBI said he did not and ran from officers.

During a foot chase, an officer said Rivera fired shots at them and they fired back. Rivera was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. He is expected to be OK.

No officers were injured. This is the 103rd shooting involving an officer that the GBI has been called to investigate this year.
