UGA, other colleges canceling graduation ceremonies due to coronavirus

ATLANTA — It’s a moment that every college student looks forward to, but unfortunately for some this year, it’s not going to happen.

Emory University and Georgia Gwinnett College announced Wednesday that spring commencement has been canceled.

The University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University also announced Tuesday that they are canceling their graduation ceremonies.

UGA said that “actual ceremonies for both undergraduate and graduate commencement will be canceled for May 8, 2020.”

Georgia Southern said students will still be able to graduate, “consistent with academic standards, but the actual spring ceremony will be canceled.”

All public events for the rest of the semester are canceled.
