School districts go virtual, reschedule football games ahead of Hurricane Ian

ATLANTA — School districts across metro Atlanta are taking precautions to keep their students safe ahead of Hurricane Ian’s potential impacts in the area.

Clayton County Schools have decided to observe a virtual learning day on Friday. Staff and students will work and learn remotely.

A long list of school districts have also moved their football games scheduled for Friday night back to Thursday night.

Atlanta Public Schools

B.E.S.T. Academy vs. Mount Paran Christian is being moved to Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Henderson Stadium in Atlanta

Mays vs. Creekside is being moved to Thursday at 8 p.m. at Henderson Stadium in Atlanta

Douglass vs. Jackson is being moved to Thursday at 7 p.m. at Red Devil Hill Stadium in Jackson, GA

Therrell vs. Washington is being moved to Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta

South Atlanta vs. KIPP Atlanta Collegiate is being moved to Thursday at 8 p.m. at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta

Barrow County Schools

Apalachee High School at Shiloh and Winder-Barrow High School at Jefferson have moved their games to Thursday.

Cherokee County Schools

All three Homecoming varsity football games are being moved to Thursday at 7:30 p.m. including:

Creekview High School vs Etowah High School

Sequoyah High School vs River Ridge High School

Woodstock High School vs Rome High School

Clayton County Schools

Jonesboro vs Mundy’s Mill is being moved to Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Hines Ward Field/Tara Stadium.

Lovejoy vs Woodward Academy is being moved to Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at 12 Oaks Stadium.

Morrow’s Homecoming Game vs Alcovy is being moved to Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Morrow High School.

Junior Varsity games will be rescheduled to either Wednesday or the last week of the season.

DeKalb County Schools

All games scheduled for Friday night are moving up to Thursday, including Lithonia High School vs. Arabia Mountain at 7 p.m.

Haralson County Schools

Haralson County’s Homecoming Game is moving up to Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Henry County Schools

All games scheduled for Friday night are moving up to Thursday.

Newton County Schools

Both Eastside High School and Newton High School have moved their games from Friday to Thursday.

Paulding County Schools

Football games for all five high schools have been moved to Thursday.

Rockdale County Schools

Rockdale County High School vs. Forest Park is being moved to Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Salem High School vs. Hepzibah is being moved to Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
