ATLANTA — Women who have had to make the challenging to decision to get an abortion spoke out against the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in front of Atlanta City Hall on Friday.
The high court decided that a 2018 Mississippi state law banning abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy is constitutional.
This decision allows states to decide on an individual basis whether to allow or ban abortions.

Channel 2′s Tom Jones was on hand at City Hall as women in the community spoke out against the decision they said would impact their reproductive rights.

One woman at City Hall on Friday, Susana Duran, said she found out she was pregnant at six weeks. Upon learning of her pregnancy, she considered having an abortion, an option she would not have if Georgia’s Fetal Heart Bill Law-- which would ban abortions at six weeks were approved.
The law was voted down by a federal court in 2020 but could soon go into effect.
“You are criminalizing me because I couldn’t make a decision on the spot when that pregnancy test came up positive,” Duran said. “I would not have been able to get an abortion under this new ban if it comes in effect.”

Atlanta Councilwoman Liliana Bakhtiari wants to minimize the impact of overturning Roe v. Wade on women locally, authorizing a resolution that calls for the Atlanta Police Department not to use city funds to investigate abortions and treat abortion calls as low priorities.
Bakhtiari said pregnant women need more resources and more support, not more government intrusion on their bodies.
“This is not pro-choice. This is pro-forced birth,” Bakhtiari said about the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
