Channel 2′s Larry Spruill was in southwest Atlanta on Saturday night, where Atlanta Police Major David Villaroel said everything started around 6 p.m. at the gas station when undercover officers witnessed a drug deal.

“Upon exiting the patrol vehicle, they noticed one of the males had a gun in his hands. The officers gave him several commands to drop the weapon,” said Major David Villaroel with Atlanta Police.

But police said the man took off, running toward the Village of Castleberry Hills.

“The subject tried to jump the fence, still having the weapon in hand, officers still giving commands to drop the weapon. The officer subsequently discharged his weapon and struck the 18-year-old male in the rear buttocks. We have drugs that were recovered, those would be part of the investigation,” Villaroel said.

Police said the suspect is expected to be okay.

They’re still investigating the shooting.
