GSP chase on I-20 leads to shootout, multiple cars crashed near Grant Park neighborhood

ATLANTA — A car chase involving Georgia State Patrol lead to a shootout and several cars crashed on Boulevard Avenue near Grant Park Wednesday afternoon.

NewsChopper 2 was over the scene, where at least three cars were crashed and crime scene tape was strung up across the intersection.

Channel 2′s Candace McCowan was at the scene, where more and more law enforcement officers were arriving. Most were focused on a maroon car crashed into a light pole.

The GBI says Ramadan Saleem, 36, was driving a maroon Genesis erratically on the interstate. After exiting onto Boulevard SE, they say he ran a red light, hit another car and crashed into a light pole.

After getting out of the car, Saleem pulled out a gun and started firing at officers. They fired back, shooting him

They found two guns near Saleem.

Channel 2 Action News obtained video from moments after the incident unfolded that shows a man who appears to be injured face-down on the ground in front of that car. He doesn’t move for the duration of the video and officers later remove two handguns. EMTS then load him up onto a stretcher.

The video shows another man being handcuffed on the ground.

Moments later, officers appear to pull an infant from the car and take the child over to paramedics.

Saleem was taken to the hospital and is currently stable.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to the scene.

McCowan talked to a neighbor, who said he heard at least four gunshots.

“Very wild,” Cleveland Pope said. “Right in front of your door here. This is a pretty safe neighborhood, but things go on.”

None of the people involved in the incident have been identified and their conditions have not been released.
