Innocent bystander shot after gunman opens fire outside metro Atlanta supermarket

ATLANTA — Police are searching for someone who started shooting at a northwest Atlanta grocery store. Bullets hit one person outside the store along Joseph E. Boone Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.

A supermarket worker told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that she locked the door to the store when the bullets started flying.

The shooter got away. One witness says the gunman started shooting and kept shooting before getting away.

“I saw a man up there shooting. Bam, bam, bam,” said witness Robert Murray.

Several people saw the gunman or heard the shots that left a man wounded in the Simpson Plaza parking lot just after noon.

Murray said the gunman was very methodical.

“He was shooting for a reason cause this ain’t no random I just come up and you piss me off and I shoot. Because somebody must have done something to that young man. Because he stopped, shot and then he shot again,” Murray said.

Police said it began after the gunman got into an argument with the manager of the Shoppers Supermarket.

The man left and came back with a gun.

Police said he opened fire, hitting an innocent bystander.

Investigators said the victim was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital.

The owner of a restaurant in the shopping plaza said too many people are hanging out in the parking lot and police need to clean up the area.

Murray said that has nothing to do with what happened.

“It can happen in Buckhead. It ain’t nothing about the Bluff. It ain’t got nothing to do with us over here. We ain’t about that kind of action,” Murray said.

Some people at the scene told Jones that they are urging the gunman to turn himself in.
