ATLANTA — The Georgia Dept. of Public Safety is sharing its stats for how many people were arrested or cited for drunk driving, distracted driving and not wearing a seatbelt during the busy Labor Day travel weekend.
According to officials, Georgia State Troopers and officers made 216 DUI arrests in 24 hours.

“The significant increase in DUI arrests is a reminder that impaired driving remains one of the greatest threats on Georgia’s roads. Despite rideshare services, designated drivers and countless ways to plan ahead, people are still making the choice to get behind the wheel under the influence,” the department said in a statement.

But that’s not all troopers are driving into action to address.
So far, as of 7:38 Sunday morning, 183 people were cited for distracted driving and 324 people were cited for not wearing seat belts.
State troopers have responded to 95 crashes across Georgia’s roads so far, and one fatality. Of the crashes, 29 led to people being injured and 10 of them were with drivers under the influence.
For drivers, GSP said to “slow down, buckle up, put the phone down” and “never drive impaired.”
