ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Agriculture approved a federal fuel waiver issued on Aug. 20.
Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced Thursday that the waiver, aimed at lowering gas prices and boosting how much fuel was available in Georgia, was adopted by the state.
The Aug. 20 waiver was issued from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to help address fuel supply disruptions impacting refining capacity and energy distribution across the U.S.

“As high fuel prices persist, we’re taking action to give Georgians a break at the gas pump,” Harper said in a statement. “By adopting this federal waiver, we’re able to increase the available supply of fuel, while maintaining strict quality standards and certifying pumps across the state to ensure Georgians get what they pay for.”
The Dept. of Agriculture’s Fuel & Measures Division will take steps to align state-level policy and enforcement with the federal waiver.
Officials said this will allow for temporary flexibility on certain ethanol blending and volatility requirements to help increase how much fuel is available, working to prevent supply chain bottlenecks and lower the pressure on gas prices.
