Family of man gunned down in his home say suspect is threatening them

ATLANTA — The family of a young father of three says they’re not giving up their fight for justice, even if they are being threatened to do so.

Police say they know who shot 35-year-old Keith Bell, but have not been able to arrest him.

According to police, 21-year-old Jermaine Harlow shot Bell in the back in October. Bell reportedly told Harlow to leave his home after the suspect got into a heated argument with Bell’s step-daughter.

“If you can’t be home safe, then where can you be?” one of Bell’s family members who wanted to remain anonymous asked.

Bell’s family says they cannot begin to heal knowing the man responsible for their loved one’s death is still on the streets.

“It’s hard. I have breakdowns just about every day, thinking about him or knowing I’m not going to be able to see his face or hear his voice again,” his mother, Elizabeth Bell, told Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln.

“It is awful, my family is torn, we’re dazed out, it’s devastating,” another family member said.

Atlanta police say Harlow has been on the run since the murder. Bell’s family says he has been spotted several times in midtown and southwest Atlanta, but he has not been captured.

The family claims that Harlow is threatening them to keep them from cooperating with police.

“He’s putting letters in [Elizabeth Bell’s] father’s mailbox, saying he’s going to kill her, why are you doing this to me, they’re trying to give me 100 years, why are you doing this to me, I can’t wait ‘til I see you, I’m going to murder you,” the anonymous family member described.

They say that they won’t let the threats deter them from getting the justice they deserve.

“You can run, but you can’t hide. God is going to get you,” Elizabeth Bell said.
