’Drive or I’m going to blow your head off’: Mother of 2 kidnapped, robbed while leaving hair salon

ATLANTA — A Cobb County mother of two was says a man got into her car as she left an Atlanta hair salon and forced her to drive to an ATM.

She is one of at least two women with similar stories, and Channel 2 Action News has learned police are looking into a possible third victim.

Robin Cauthen told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington that she was leaving her hair salon on Piedmont Road on Sept. 25 when a strange man suddenly got into the backseat of her car.

“The exact same time, I’m getting in, this man is getting in,” she said. “He said drive or I’m going to blow your (expletive) head off.”

Cauthen said she tried to escape but he grabbed her.

“My door was still open so I tried to get out, and he reached over and grabbed my arm and grabbed me with such force I had a handprint there for a week,” she said.

She says the man told her to drive to an ATM and take out cash. Along the way, Cauthen says she kept talking to him to make him see her as human and not hurt her. She told him she was a mother of two and breast cancer survivor.

That’s when he opened up to her. Cauthen says the man told her his name was Robert and that he’d recently lost his job and needed the money to feed his son. He also apologized.

“I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,” she recalled him saying. “He said, ‘Don’t act like what I’m doing is okay. It’s not okay.’”

Cauthen says after pulling out hundreds of dollars and giving the money to him, she dropped him off at Atlantic Station.

Police say just a few days later, he struck again in the same area. While a woman was pumping gas at the QuikTrip on Sidney Marcus Boulevard, the man entered her backseat. When she got back in the car, he forced her to drive to the ATM.

Cauthen says she never saw a gun but wants the suspect off the streets before he does this to anyone else.

“If Robert happens to watch this what do you want to say to him?” Washington asked Cauthen.

“I will say the same thing I said when he left my car. ‘Be the man your son would want you to be,’” she said.

Investigators said they are looking into another case in the Sandy Springs area that may be related to this case as well.
