Community raises more than $16,000 for officer shot 6 times in the line of duty

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department has started a GoFundMe account for Officer David Rodgers, who was shot in the line of duty by a gang member earlier this week.

Rodgers is still hospitalized and recovering from six gunshot wounds. A GoFundMe account set up by APD’s gang unit has raised more than $16,000 to help Rodgers and his family with medical expenses.

“This is a time we come together in support of Officer D. Rodgers who notably takes pride in his profession day in and day out,” officers wrote on the GoFundMe. “He not only serves and protects his community, but he cares about the quality of work he displays. Let’s show him the same love and support.”

Rodgers was shot Feb. 7 while trying to serve a warrant on a known gang member at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex.

Christian Eppinger, 22, was arrested in the shooting. He is affiliated with the Young Slime Life (YSL) gang and was wanted on a murder warrant prior to the shooting.
