City of Atlanta workforce to receive additional pay raises next year

ATLANTA, Ga. — Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced Tuesday he is investing an additional $9.5 million in increased pay for City of Atlanta employees.

Dickens’ first budget approved by City Council in June included a 2% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) scheduled to take effect in January. It was the first COLA in five years for city workers.

On Tuesday, Dickens announced an additional 1.5% COLA, which increases the planned increase from 2% to 3.5%.

In a letter to City of Atlanta workers on Tuesday, Dickens said the pay increases are possible because the city’s revenues from sales taxes and business licenses have overperformed projections and that there will be a healthy reserve fund even after the pay adjustments.

“I know that recent fluctuations in the economy — particularly high inflation — have created challenges and uncertainty,” Dickens said. “I hope that these pay increases confirm my appreciation of your hard work and help you and your families meet your needs and invest in your future with and in the City of Atlanta.”
