Blooming trees lead to earliest ‘extremely high range’ pollen count in over 30 years

ATLANTA — Are you feeling the pollen in the air? If you have itchy eyes, are sneezing, and feel stuffy, it’s for good reason.

Atlanta Allergy & Asthma says today’s count is 1,605, with tree pollen in the extremely high range for the first time this season.

“This is the earliest the count has reached the Extremely High range in over 30 years of pollen data,” the organization said in a news release.

Atlanta Allergy also said February saw a record number of days that the count was in the high range with 14.

The previous record was 10 set in Feb. 2017.

“At these levels, patients with allergies, particularly to tree pollens, will experience symptoms. The main tree pollen contributors today are Pine, Oak, Mulberry, Willow, and Hackberry,” Atlanta Allergy said.

Just last week, metro Atlanta also reached the second-highest pollen count ever recorded for February.
