Mystery surrounds man found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in driveway of vacant Buckhead lot

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in an upscale Buckhead neighborhood Thursday morning.

Channel 2′s Tom Regan was the only reporter to talk to a mother who was driving her elementary-school-aged daughter to school when they spotted the body, on Channel 2 Action News at 5 p.m.

Heather Marie Baker said her daughter saw the victim on the side of Peachtree Battle Drive lying motionless in the driveway of a vacant lot.

“She suddenly exclaimed that she saw a man lying on the ground, and she said, ‘I saw blood and it looks like he’s been shot,’” Baker said. “I knew that he was unconscious and not responsive, but I wasn’t sure at that time if he was past saving.”

Baker called 911.

Police are working to determined the identity of the victim, who they said is a man in his mid 40s or 50s.

“We don’t believe he lived in the immediate area,” police said. “He doesn’t seem to be from the neighborhood.”

“It’s so sad to think of him lying there and suffering alone,” Baker said.

Baker said she’s proud of her daughter for spotting the tragic scene and that they wish the man could have been saved.
