Atlanta man providing dignity by providing showers

ATLANTA — Nicky Crawford’s heart is always touched when he encounters those who are less fortunate.

“Me, like a lot of other people – except for the grace of God – there go I,” Crawford said.

He says the simple things of life, things most of us take for granted, couldn’t be more important.

“When those people go in and they come out, it’s like their spirit has been lifted. You can see the joy on their face. From a simple shower,” Deborah Crawford said.

Every Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Nicky and his wife Deborah park a trailer behind Grady Hospital in downtown Atlanta.

It is equipped with three private showers for people who are homeless, like George.

“It’s a blessing, you know? It’s a blessing,” he said.

George told Channel 2′s Berndt Peterson he stopped by for a shower and also picked up a pair of sneakers.

For the last six weeks, the Crawford’s Flowing with Blessings foundation has provided the place to shower, soap and shampoo, towels, and new undergarments and socks.

There have been dozens of visits so far. Nicky says there are guests, who are quickly becoming family.

“When you actually sit down and talk to them, it’s just a family member. A family member who had a rough time. So we can all do something. Maybe not this. But we can all do something to help the unhoused in the Atlanta area,” Nicky Crawford said.
