ATLANTA — An Atlanta couple has been charged in connection with the death of an infant.
Atlanta police said they were called to a home along Mary George Avenue NW on May 2, where they found the child unresponsive.
The infant was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, where, despite life-saving measures, the child was declared dead.
On Thursday, police arrested James Hayes and Kennedi Ponder, who lived at the home.

Hayes has been charged with murder-2nd degree, child cruelty 1st degree, child cruelty 2nd degree, and child cruelty 1st degree-deprivation of necessary sustenance.
Ponder has been charged with child cruelty 1st degree, child cruelty 2nd degree, and child cruelty 1st degree-deprivation of necessary sustenance.
Police said the infant was released to the medical examiner but did not give a cause of death.
