Drive-by shooting injures sleeping woman; bullets miss kids inside Atlanta home, police say

ATLANTA — A woman is hospitalized after police say someone fired shots into her home as she slept early Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the home on the 200 block of Henry Aaron Avenue SW on a report of a person shot around 2:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found the victim, a 67-year-old woman, with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim told officers she was sleeping and then heard multiple gunshots and then a car drive away. She said the bullets hit her in her arm and abdomen. She was taken to the hospital listed as stable.

The victim’s sister said that two other children, ages 5 and 10, were also in the home during the shooting. One of the bullets fired into the home hit a Crayola chalk board.

Another person in the house said he heard as many as 12 gunshots.

Police found four 9mm shell casings in front of the house. The casings were laying in the street and near the curb of the home. Officers said there were eight bullet holes in the front of the house.

Other people inside the home said they did not know who would shoot at the home or why.

Authorities are continuing their investigation.
