2 Georgia cities have been named among most obese in the country

ATLANTA — Two Georgia cities have made the Top 100 of a list of something they probably wouldn’t want to be named in: 2023′s most overweight cities in America.

More than 40% of U.S. adults are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Here in Georgia, there are two particular areas that hit spots on the list by WalletHub.

The Augusta-Richmond County area came in at No. 13. The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Alpharetta area came in at No. 50.

WalletHub said they used three metrics to come up with the list: obesity and overweight; health consequences; and food and fitness.

“It then evaluated those dimensions using 19 relevant metrics, each of which was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the ‘fattest,’” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

This year’s fattest city was McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, TX.
