Police say multiple people, guns involved in shootout that left 1 dead, 1 injured

ATLANTA — One person is dead and another is injured after a shootout involving multiple people, guns and bullets in Atlanta’s Thomasville neighborhood in southeast Atlanta Friday morning.

Police are currently investigating two scenes, one on Kipling Street and another on McDonough Boulevard.

The victim on Kipling Drive was gunned down in front of a home and pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was dropped off at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins was at the scene on Kipling Street, where she saw multiple shell casings all over the road and a car that was damaged by bullet holes.

Investigators believe the two shootings are connected and that there were multiple weapons used.

Neighbors crowded the streets for several hours on Friday, watching in disbelief and scared at the violence that unfolded outside of their homes. No one wanted to talk on camera, but a witness said he or she believed the victim lived on the street where he was killed.

The shooting left behind a dramatic trail of evidence with shell casings all over the road and a nearby car with multiple bullet holes.

Investigators believe the shooting was an escalating conflict between two groups of people.

“Currently, we have one person who was taken to the hospital,” police said. “We are working to get an interview with him as soon as he is able to understand what exactly occurred and what led to the shooting incident that we have now.”

The victims have not been identified and it’s unclear what led up to the shooting.

Police have not released information about any potential suspects.
