Airbnb cracks down on parties for summer holidays

Airbnb is rolling out strict anti-party measures for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Their plan is designed to help prevent unauthorized parties in Atlanta and emphasize safe and responsible travel.

They plan to block some one-night whole-home reservations during three-day weekends, including Memorial Day weekend and July 4th weekend. These new rules are meant to complement Airbnb’s existing party prevention systems.

These new restrictions will not apply to guests with a history of positive reviews.

Airbnb launched a pilot program in Atlanta last year with a similar initiative over July 4th weekend to help reduce disruptive parties. More than 2,900 people were blocked from booking entire homes over the July 4th weekend last year due to the pilot program.

This is the first time Airbnb will be using similar rules for a Memorial Day weekend.

They also have a Neighborhood Support Line, which allows neighbors to flag rentals in real-time if they spot a party in progress at a home that they believe is an Airbnb. The support line is monitored 24/7 by members of their safety team.  They will work with law enforcement, when needed, and take action against the people responsible for the party. The Neighborhood Support Line is accessible at airbnb.com/neighbors.

The company’s website included the following information:

“The following criteria will be in place for guests attempting to book reservations over both Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth of July weekend in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands):

“For one-night reservations — Guests without a history of positive reviews on Airbnb will be prohibited from making one-night reservations in entire home listings.

“For two-night reservations — As July 4 approaches, we will deploy more stringent restrictions on certain two-night reservation attempts. For example, we will leverage and amplify our technology that restricts certain local or last-minute bookings by guests without a history of positive reviews on Airbnb.”

Guests who have a history of positive reviews on Airbnb will not be subject to these restrictions.
