Police said the preliminary investigation suggests the victims got into a fight with the shooter at a separate location. The victims left that location but were followed by the suspect, who fired a gun at them.

Police said they believe the victims and the shooter knew each other.

Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach was at the scene, where a car was riddled with bullets.

Witnesses told Gehlbach that there were also three children in the car and that the incident started at a nearby Walmart or McDonald’s.

The family stopped in front of an apartment complex as the shooting started. Camiyah Jorden said a blue sedan with bullet holes through the side stopped in front of her building.

“”Next thing you know, ‘Bam, bam, bam, bam!’ and car come pulling up in here,” Jordan said.

The driver, who was shot twice in the leg, and a woman who was shot in the back got out of the car screaming.

“He said. ‘I’m shot! I’m shot,’” Jordan said. “Had blood coming all out his leg. So I reached in, got a sweater to put pressure on it.”

Deasia Clark also ran over to help. She saw a teenage boy get out of the wrecked car.

“And we got the other children out the car and of course, they’re watching this, which is horrible,” Clark said.

The two toddlers, a boy and a girl ages two and three years old were in the back seat and not hurt.

“None of them got shot,” Clark said. “Praise God.”

Police are still searching for the shooter and said the victims knew the suspect. Police have not released a description of that suspect or the car the shooter may be traveling in.

The victim’s identities and conditions have not been released.

Thursday’s shooting happened less than two miles away from a deadly shooting that also happened on Cleveland Ave. this week.

On Monday, a security guard was shot and killed in the parking lot of American Wings & Seafood, which is on the 300 block of Cleveland Ave.

The victim in that shooting has been identified as 51-year-old Anthony Frazier.
