17-year-old from Georgia graduates high school and college at the same time

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Evan Swain isn’t your ordinary 17-year-old. Not only is she graduating high school this spring, she’s graduating college too.

This was all made possible through a dual enrollment program that she began after ninth grade.

But that’s just the beginning of her accomplishments.

Evan is graduating Shiloh High School as an honors student and she is a member of the Spanish Honor Society and BETA Club. She is also a competitive swimmer, Girl Scout, lifeguard and certified babysitter, and volunteers at church as an assistant Sunday school teacher.

Somehow, on top of all of this, she managed to be awarded an associate degree in general studies at Georgia State Perimeter.

Her mother, Teddie, said she knew that anything her daughter put her mind to, she could achieve.

“We’re very proud of her. It’s a lot of work,” Teddie Swain said.

So what’s next for Evan? She is attending the University of Georgia in the fall, where she hopes to complete their Double Dawgs Program where she will earn her bachelor and master’s degrees in early childhood education in three more years.

Her dream is to teach first grade at the same elementary school she attended.

This type of hard work runs in the family, Evan’s older sister took the same dual enrollment program.
