16-year-old charged with murder, arson after deadly Monroe County house fire

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that a teenager has been charged in a fire that happened early Thursday morning.

Sheriff’s officials said authorities responded to a fire on Old Zebulon Road in Monroe County around 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

They found two bodies in the home.

The homeowner/renters’ vehicle was missing.

The vehicle was stopped in Kentucky, and inside, was Candace Walton, 16.

Authorities took Walton into custody.

The teen was charged with two counts of felony murder, arson and multiple counts of theft by taking.

Sheriff’s officials are still waiting for the GBI Crime Lab to positively identify the bodies found in the home.
