During the drug deal, police say Harden shot Laye in the chest. Laye returned fire and shot Harden in the leg.

A good Samaritan was doing CPR on Laye when police arrived. Laye was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

LaGrange police said Harden took himself to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

Harden is being charged with felony murder. As of 1 a.m., Harden had not been booked into the Troup County Jail.

Mildred Simpson told Channel 2′s Michele Newell that she was cooking dinner when one of the bullets went through her kitchen wall.

She said her grandson knows Laye and was the good Samaritan trying to save him.

“He was out there and he said he was trying to help to save him,” Simpson said. “It just hurts. Cause I had a son too, and it hurts real bad. It’s sad. It is very sad to see another child gone like that.”
