At least 1 dead, 6 hospitalized after shooting at birthday party in central Georgia

SPARTA, Ga. — Multiple people were shot and one person was killed early Sunday morning in Hancock County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI said the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office received a call of shots fired around 2 a.m. in Sparta, just east of Milledgeville.

Officers found three people shot at the location and learned that four others had already gone to the hospital.

Sabreal Meshae Taylor, age 33, from Sparta, was dead at the scene.

GBI Special Agent in Charge Mary Chandler told local radio affiliate WMVG that a neighbor was throwing a birthday party that had attracted a large crowd. It’s unclear how many of the victims were at the party.

Taylor’s body will be transported to the GBI crime lab where an autopsy will be performed.

The GBI said Catavius Reeves, 29, and Ramon Lewis, 37, are in critical condition. Four other victims are stable. The GBI identified them as Johnny Chapple, 35; Shanerica Chester, 28; Thomas Womble, 29; and Ga’Keylo Gaynor, 24.

Taylor’s twin brother, Sebreal, told the Union Recorder in Milledgeville that his brother was shot in the head and the shoulder. He said they were at the party together when the shots rang out. He said he heard at least 20 shots and everyone started running.

No one has been arrested, according to the Union REcorder.
