Hungry Swainsboro man jams $27K windfall with quick stop

ATLANTA — A Swainsboro man has packed a healthy Georgia Lottery prize while grabbing a quick snack at a local convenience store. Travoski Harris won a $27,777 top prize playing the instant game Red Hot & Wild 7’s.

The 27-year-old purchased his winning ticket at Easy Stop, 437 S. Main St. in Swainsboro.

“I was going to the convenience store because I was hungry, and I grabbed a ticket or two,” Harris recalled. “I’d forgotten about the ticket and found it in my pants pocket while doing laundry.”

The matching No. 7 revealed the lucky prize.

“I couldn’t believe it, and I stared at for about five to 10 minutes,” he said.

With his winnings, Harris plans to purchase a new home.

“I plan to help my uncle and care for him,” he shared.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
