OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. — Coworkers and customers are remembering a longtime employee at a drug store after a deadly crash in east Georgia.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Amy Gibson was driving north on Georgia Highway 24 in Oconee County on Sept. 18 when she is believed to have suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel.
Troopers said Gibson lost control of her SUV, which traveled off the west shoulder of the roadway, hit a fence, continued through a grass-covered field for about 270 feet, hit another fence and then crashed into a tree before coming to a stop.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office deputy who first arrived at the scene told authorities that Gibson was unresponsive and had no pulse when he reached the vehicle.
A witness traveling behind Gibson told troopers he saw her SUV drift off the roadway before the crash.
Following her death, ADD Drug Store in Athens shared a tribute honoring Gibson, who worked at the business for more than 12 years.

“For more than 12 years, Amy was the heart and soul of our lunch counter and cherished member of the ADD Drug family,” the business said.
Coworkers described Gibson as someone who welcomed customers with warmth and made people feel loved.
“Her bright smile and infectious laugh will be deeply missed,” the store wrote.
The business is encouraging customers and community members to share memories of Gibson and announced that a donation fund has been established to help her family with service expenses.

The crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
