GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Four people followed an apparent stranger home to Buford from a night out in Atlanta to rob him, but the man wrestled a revolver from one of them and killed him, a Gwinnett County police detective testified Wednesday.

Corporal J.K. Bell spoke at a preliminary hearing for E’imod Sanchez Toboris Taylor and Brinson Bernard Crumbley, 23. Both are charged with felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and a gun charge in the Sept. 5 death of Marvin Wiley, 23, of Atlanta, who police say was one of the robbers.

Bell testified the group began trailing the man’s Escalade in a white Kia between 3 and 4 a.m. as he went to clubs with friends. A screenshot on Wiley’s phone placed it at the man’s last stop that morning.

The Kia, showing a Texas tag registered to a Ford F-150, waited as he parked at the Ellison apartments around 6:40 a.m. Three got out with guns as a camera next door recorded.

Bell said the man fought Wiley for the silver revolver Wiley carried, killed him with it and shot Taylor.

“The second individual who was shot across the midsection was trying to crawl back to the vehicle, the suspect vehicle, but was unable to use his legs,” Bell said.

Police believe Crumbley drove the Kia, which left Taylor at Grady Memorial Hospital. Questioned by Crumbley’s attorney, Bell agreed no video shows Crumbley in the Kia and that the robbed man fired first and is an uncharged convicted felon.

The suspect who fired back has not been identified, but Bell said a recorded Instagram call two days later appears to capture someone who was there.

“It’s pretty lengthy, but it’s in the realm of, they followed this guy to rob him of his jewelry and essentially it went badly,” Bell said.
