Georgia’s largest food bank has created a text program that will tell you, in Spanish or English, where to get free food near you.

The CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Kyle Waide, says even with big sports stars like Matt Ryan and Freddie Freeman pledging donations, it’s going to take more support to feed our neighbors.

“We’ll partner with folks across the community to ensure that the folks we sever have a better chance to survive this and get back on their two feet,” Waide said.

The nonprofit is working with 5 local school districts to deliver about a quarter of a million pounds of food to more than 20 sites each week.

“The challenge in front of us is really humbling. We know people are facing just really difficult circumstances, “ Waide said.

The food bank has been feeding hungry Georgians in 29 counties for nearly 40 years, but Waide fears the economic impact of COVID-19 might be the biggest challenge yet.
