ATLANTA — Delivery giant, entertainment company and online behemoth Amazon confirmed to Channel 2 Action News exclusively that it was exploring how to expand its drone delivery business in the metro Atlanta area.
The drone service currently operates in parts of Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Michigan and Texas.
According to company spokeswoman Cait Freda, Amazon representatives are already setting up meetings to start the process of growing their drone delivery service around Atlanta.
The news comes as Walmart drones are already in the sky over certain metro Atlanta cities, stretching from one side of the region to the other, though not in all of the regions it has tried to launch in.

“We are always exploring new ways to get customers a wider selection at faster speeds. Prime Air currently delivers to customers in locations across the country and the response from customers using Prime air has been overwhelmingly positive,” Amazon said in a statement to Channel 2 Action News. “We are currently working with local officials and evaluating opportunities to expand our fast, reliable drone delivery service to reach customers in the metro Atlanta area.”
While not directly linked, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently said the company planned to expand services to scale up Prime Air to serve 30 million customers by the end of 2026.
As part of that push, Jassy told shareholders the company is expecting to deliver 500 million packages through Prime Air by the end of 2030, with a goal of a 30 minute delivery window.
Amazon officials did not have a timeline of implementation available for when the service is expected to take off in the metro Atlanta area.
