“Upon their arrival to the apartment, officers were immediately met with gunfire,” police said in a statement.
Officers fired back, but in the process, one was grazed by a bullet, and another received lacerations.
That’s when a massive police response descended on the building.
“Man, we just heard a whole bunch of ruckus that took us out our sleep. And then we came out on our balcony ... So we just saw a few police officers, and then we saw the armed AR-15s going in the building,” said Isaiah Coemmons, who lives at the Helios apartments.

At this time, the gunman is barricaded inside the apartment building.
SWAT officers could be seen walking in and out of the building throughout the morning.
Another person who lives inside the building tells Channel 2 Action News that there are 300+ apartments in the building.
An emergency alert was sent to residents around 10:45 a.m. from the complex’s management, telling them to shelter in place, barricade their doors, and to “stay quiet and out of sight.”
The officers were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Both have been released.
