Rain to eventually clear overnight

ATLANTA — Freezing rain has turned into rain as fans pack Atlanta for the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Severe Weather Team 2 will have an hour-by-hour forecast of when rain will clear in metro Atlanta on Channel 2 Action News 

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz said there will be scattered showers during the game tonight but should taper off by the end.

"Just some cold rain as we prepare for kick-off between 6 and 8 o'clock we keep scattered showers, more on than off," Nitz said.

MINUTE-BY-MINUTE UPDATES: 

1 p.m.: Winter Weather Advisory has been canceled for much of metro Atlanta and north Georgia as temperatures rise above freezing.

12:30 p.m.: A trace of rain fall in metro Atlanta and temperatures are just above freezing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

12:20 p.m.: Parts of metro Atlanta seeing light drizzle, rain

11:43 a.m.: Report of freezing drizzle/rain still in Hamilton Mill area of Gwinnett County along Interstate 85.

11:08 a.m. Winter Weather Advisory extended until 1 p.m.

11:00 a.m. Light rain reaches Atlanta as road temperatures climb slightly above freezing.

10:30 a.m.: Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reports pavement temperatures still in the mid to upper 20s.

10:10 a.m.: Pavement temperatures climb into the 35 degree range with the delayed onset of precipitation in the metro. Air temperatures are now at 34 degrees.

9:20 a.m.: Floyd County's emergency management reporting icing on roads and accidents.

8:30 a.m.: LaGrange, Ga. reporting drizzle with temperature just above freezing.

8:15 a.m.: Emergency Management in Chattooga County reporting several wrecks now on icy roads

8 a.m.: Light freezing rain, drizzle around north Georgia

7:30 a.m.: I-75 shut down in northwest Georgia due to ice and crashes.

7:15 a.m.: Freezing rain falling in areas of Dalton and Rome in northwest Georgia

5 a.m.: Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for metro Atlanta until 12 p.m.
