DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A mother told Channel 2 Action News that she is concerned about student safety after kids beat up her third grader on the school bus.

“The bullying -- it has to stop,” mother India Lee said.

The concerned mother gave Channel 2's Christian Jennings cellphone video of the fight involving her little girl that happened on a DeKalb County school bus last Friday.

She said her heart sank when she got a call from her daughter's phone.

“I just hear a bunch of kids hollering and screaming,” Lee said.

She said a group of kids attacked her third grade daughter, Zion, out of nowhere.

Lee said she’s frustrated with how the bus driver and the school system handled it.

“No one from the school system has contacted me,” Lee told Jennings.

The video shows kids hitting Zion in the head.

Lee is a nurse. When her daughter got home, Lee noticed something was off, so she took Zion to the hospital that evening.

Paperwork from the hospital shows Zion suffered a concussion.

“She kept complaining of a headache, and she was like, ‘Mom, I’m tired,’” Lee told Jennings.

Lee said her daughter told her the bus driver never pulled over or turned around.

“Why would you take them home? You should take them back to the school. You need to report this. This is something serious,” Lee said.

The DeKalb County School District sent Jennings a statement that said, in part: “Because of federal law the district cannot comment on specific incidents involving students. Since the alleged incident occurred on the Friday before the beginning of Spring Break, it will be investigated when students return to school on April 8.”

Lee said her daughter will never ride the bus again.

“There’s not enough adult supervision on the school bus. The bus driver can’t drive and watch the students at the same time,” Lee said.

The school district told Jennings that bus drivers are supposed to report an incident to dispatch and fill

out a student bus conduct form if there's a fight.
