Gray faces 55 counts, including malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault.
Prosecutors said they will ask the judge to try him as an adult.
Students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn and teachers Cristina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall were killed in the shooting, with several others injured.
The hearing was originally set for last month, but his team asked for more time to prepare.
In May, Gray’s previous legal team raised the possibility of a non-negotiated plea during a motions hearing, but no decision was made.
Colt Gray’s father, Colin Gray, also faces charges.
Prosecutors allege he provided the semiautomatic rifle used in the attack, and that the father knew Colt Gray may have posed a danger to the public.
Colin Gray’s trial was moved to Hall County to avoid potential biases among members of the jury. It is expected to begin on Feb. 9.
