GREENE COUNTY, Ga. — A man has been sentenced after a jury found him guilty of abusing a nonverbal 3-year-old child with developmental disabilities, according to the district attorney’s office.

On Sept. 23, the Ocmulgee District Attorney’s Office announced that a Greene County jury convicted Damian Andre Wright on all counts following a three-day trial stemming from an incident in September 2024.
Prosecutors said Wright physically abused the child, causing serious injuries that included a spinal compression fracture and fractures to both arms.
The jury found Wright guilty of cruelty to children in the first degree, cruelty to children in the second degree and three counts of aggravated battery.

A judge sentenced Wright to 90 years, with the first 25 years to be served in prison and the remainder on probation.
Following the verdict, Wright also pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault in a separate case. Prosecutors said Wright tried to run over the mother and grandmother of his infant son with a vehicle.
For those charges, Wright received a 20-year prison sentence that will run concurrently with the sentence imposed in the child abuse case.
In announcing the conviction, the Ocmulgee District Attorney’s Office also thanked school faculty members and medical professionals who testified during the trial and assisted in the investigation.
