DETROIT, Mich. — The wife of former University of Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford announced that she need surgery to remove a brain tumor.
Kelly Stafford shared her diagnosis on her Instagram page Wednesday.
"I had a tumor sitting on some of my cranial nerves. The medical term they used was an acoustic neuroma or vestibular schwannoma.. All I heard was brain tumor & that they had to do surgery to take it out.. so that is what we are going to do & we believe we found the best doctor to do it," Stafford wrote in the post.
Kelly Stafford said she went to the doctor because she experienced several episodes of vertigo earlier this year. A team doctor for the Detroit Lions, who drafted Matthew Stafford with No. 1 pick in 2009, recommended for Kelly Stafford to have a MRI, which revealed the tumor.

The Staffords met as undergraduate students at the University of Georgia. The couple married in 2015 and has three daughters.
