This happens when the Earth moves directly between the sun and the moon and casts a shadow onto the moon’s surface.
The sun will cast a shadow on the moon, making it appear a reddish-orange color.
Barring cloudy skies, billions of people across the Americas, with the eclipse peaking just before midnight ET.
