He died at the scene. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as 17-year-old Rashawn Mackey.

“He was out doing some Uber Eats, and he encountered a male at the gas station who was apparently upset about something while inside the store and led to a couple shots,” Homicide Lt. Christapher Butler told Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers before Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m.

Rogers reached out to Uber Eats, who said it appears that Mackey isn’t connected to them, but he was doing gig work.

Police said they don’t think Mackey knew the suspect.

“He was with some other people, we’ve spoken to them. It appears it was just a group of people out just picking up some orders,” Butler said.

The suspect, who ran from the scene, hasn’t been identified. Police said the gas station is cooperating.

“We’re going to try to roll back the video and see what we have and get the total timeline,” Butler said.

Investigators called in the K-9 team, which tracked a scent to an apartment complex. Rogers saw police gathering evidence there, but they’re still working to see if everything is connected.
