Spring break travel: 94K passengers expected at Atlanta airport today

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Spring break travel will begin Friday with most school districts in metro Atlanta out of class next week.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport expects today will be one of the busiest days of the year with 94,500 travelers projected.

This comes after passengers experienced long lines for weeks. Many TSA agents called out or quit for not getting paid during the partial government shutdown.

Channel 2’s Bryan Mims spoke with airport passengers throughout the morning on Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m.

The Atlanta airport’s website has shown wait times between 5-30 minutes throughout Friday so far.

Darian Wilson says she was apprehensive at first flying for the first time since the shutdown started. Her concerns were eased quickly.

“It wasn’t stressful at all. We were able to come in and check our bags,” Wilson told Mims. “God answered my prayers when I was praying like ‘I don’t really want to stand in line.’”

Airport officials said they expect Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays will be the busiest days. They expect 8.3 million passengers overall to fly through Hartsfield-Jackson this month.
