Storms leave behind damage in parts of northern Georgia

ATLANTA — Tornado warnings have been canceled but rain continued to pour into north Georgia Wednesday night.

Severe Weather Team 2 learned damage was confirmed in Social Circle.

We're getting a look at the damage on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

A number of tornado warnings were issued in north Georgia including Clarke, Madison and Oglethorpe counties.  A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was also issued for Madison County until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

More soaking rain moved through parts of North Georgia where residents are still trying to dry out from Tuesday's downpours.

Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez spoke to residents in neighborhoods where trees came down and roofs were ripped from homes.

The tropical airmass brought up to five inches of rain in some areas Tuesday.

The rain didn't put a damper on the thousands of soccer fans in town for the Major League Soccer All-Star Game.

Keep those umbrellas handy throughout the rest of the week as the chance for rain will remain high for the next several days. There’s a Flash Flood Watch for all of north Georgia until 8 a.m. Friday.

Temperatures will remain in the upper 70s and low 80s this week.

94-year-old woman’s home damaged amid tornado warning

Residents in Social Circle are having to make repairs and even rebuild after their homes were damaged during a tornado warning Wednesday night.

A tree collapsed and crashed onto one home, nearly trapping a 94-year-old woman inside.

Edward Long and his grandmother were inside the home when they received the tornado warning.

“We get the warning over the phone 30 seconds later it goes from calm to chaos,” Long said.

Long and his grandmother were able to get out of the house and was not hurt.

“We're going to be alright we're going be alright,” Long said.
