Missing couple found dead in crash; puppy alive in car

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Family members had been searching for a couple missing for more than a week. Then they happened upon the car they were in and found them dead inside.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones was with the family minutes before they found the couple Tuesday in a wooded area in Carrollton.

“My heart really just dropped,” Justice Daniel told Jones at the scene on Oak Grove Road.

Daniel says her heart broke when she and a cousin saw a silver car in some woods just after 1 p.m. She and other family members had been searching for 42-year-old Emmanuel Adams and 25-year-old Destiny Fields.

They had been missing more than a week.

“Something just told me to stop, and I looked over and I saw the car,” Daniel said.

Adams was last seen in a Silver Nissan Altima, the make and model of the car they found. It had crashed into a tree.

“It was actually a guy that stopped with us, he went down there and he confirmed it was two people in the car,” Daniel said.

Family members say the coroner told them he needed to positively confirm their identities but said it was their loved ones.

Georgia State Patrol says its preliminary investigation revealed Adams’ car failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway where it crashed into a tree. The collision killed both Adams and Fields.

Amazingly, police found the couple’s dog still in the car.

“The puppy was still alive,” Daniel said.

Several family members of both victims gathered at the scene, waiting for emergency responders to remove the bodies. They hugged and some cried.

Adams boss was at the scene.

“Emmanuel’s a big hearted, loving young man,” Randy Simpkins said.

Simpkins says Adams worked for him and lived on his farm temporarily. He says he was like a member of the family.

“We’ve been looking for him for a week and trying to reach out to him and I just can’t believe he is gone,” he said.

Family members say Adams leaves behind three children. Fields had one child.

One family member told Jones they had recently started dating.
