I-85 concrete barrier damaged after tractor-trailer, car crash into it

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a car on Interstate 85 southbound sent pieces of a concrete barrier into the northbound lanes.

Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields first told you about the crash between the Old Peachtree Road and Sugarloaf Parkway exits during Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4 a.m.

All southbound lanes remain shut down.

Gwinnett County Police say the tractor-trailer and car drivers collided around 3:35 a.m. Both drivers lost control and hit the center concrete barrier before stopping.

According to police, the tractor-trailer’s impact broke off the upper half of the barrier and sent it into the northbound lanes.

Three drivers in the northbound lanes then hit pieces of the wall, including two Gwinnett County police officers who were heading home, police said.

Those officers then responded to the first crash to help the driver of the passenger vehicle, according to police.

Emergency crews took the woman to a hospital. Police said they do not have an update on her condition.

Police said the Accident Investigation Unit and the Georgia Department of Transportation responded to the scene along with HERO and MCCD.
