GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — One of Georgia’s largest counties is extending a test pilot to see how they can use alternate transportation.
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously, via consent agenda, on Tuesday to extend their microtransit program.
In the current Gateway85 Microtransit Pilot Program, riders can get anywhere in the designated service area for $3 per ride, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., all week except for Sundays.

County officials describe the program as a convenient, on-demand service for the community. They also say it’s a low-cost alternative to rideshare services like Uber or Lyft, and more traditional taxis.
“The service is tailored to accommodate varied schedules, offering flexibility beyond traditional public transit options. Residents or visitors can use this simple and convenient service to run errands, shop or dine,” according to the Gateway85 program site.
The program operates via app, and all people need to use it is the Ride Gwinnett app for iPhone or Android.
Riders can also schedule trips by calling it in at 770-246-4770 and choosing option 3.
The county said that trips outside of the Gateway85 service area require transfer onto a separate bus route.
The program also has a feature for quicker trips. If you’ll be returning to your original location in the microtransit zone within 90 minutes, you only have to pay that first $3 charge, rather than pay $3 each way.
